In 2015, I took a leap of faith and hosted my very first backyard garden dinner, starting what would become a decade-long journey of community, creativity, and culinary delight. Inspired by the age-old tradition of farmers inviting friends to share in the bounty of their harvest (Farm Surplus Dinners), I decided to create a small-scale version right in my own backyard (Backyard Garden Dinners).
With just 8 guests and a couple of folding tables set under the stars, I cooked alone, figuring things out as I went. Little did I know, I’d later be joined by kindred friends who helped me grow this one-time experiment into something far greater and deeply special.
In 10 years, we’ve hosted 36 dinners filled with delicious menus, connection, and beauty—a reminder of the joy that comes from sharing food and fellowship.
